Microsoft Development Center Serbia (MDCS) is founded in 2005, as the fourth development center of Microsoft on the global level. MDCS specializes in software engineering and applied mathematics and currently employs more than 250 highly qualified engineers. The MDCS team consists of software engineers with solid industry experience and fresh college graduates with a common trait – hunger for achieving and making a substantial impact. MDCS is created with a mission to take an active part in conception of novel Microsoft technologies by hiring unique local talent from Serbia and to contribute components to some of Microsoft’s premiere and most innovative products. MDCS is becoming widely recognized across Microsoft as a center of excellence for the Big Data and Machine Learning based solutions.

Microsoft Development Center Serbia has 7 teams located in Belgrade:

Azure Data Team

Microsoft’s Cloud & Enterprise division is developing the Microsoft Azure cloud platform and various on-premise products which are being used by world’s largest enterprises. Over the last 10 years the team has contributed to several major releases of SQL Server, as well as cloud data services: Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Data Warehouse. Some of the latest innovations in Azure SQL Database that are changing the way people use databases, have been created in Belgrade. The team charter has expanded beyond core database technologies, into Big Data processing and building the Cloud based fabric for Microservices. We are developing services for processing petabytes of data in seconds. We are also building a framework to help users develop and deploy modern Microservice architecture applications efficiently.

Office Team

Office team specializes in content augmentation, transformation and understanding, as well as developing end-to-end content acquisition solutions for effective authoring and storytelling. Over the years we contributed to several Office products: Microsoft Mathematics, Microsoft Word which enables conversion of PDF documents to high quality Word documents, Office Lens which can transform pictures into editable document files. Most recently, the team had a significant role in developing a modern way of presenting content in digital age – Sway.

Windows Mixed Reality - Vision Team

The Vision Team in Belgrade drives innovation in Mixed Reality and Human Understanding fields. We incubate new ideas and products from the very start through combination of research and engineering. Our expertise includes machine learning, computer vision and hardware design.

Windows Mixed Reality - Havok Team

Havok team is the leading provider of game development technologies, with over 15 years of experience servicing the most demanding technology requirements for game developers. Superior technology and unparalleled support to customers has brought our technology to over 600 titles, including top franchises such as Halo, The Elder Scrolls, Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, Uncharted and more. Our main focus is on the core of Havok physics engine.

Maps Team

Maps team is a part of Microsoft Maps organization. Over the past 4 years the team has worked on various challenging projects: Local Business Classification, Local Result Relevance for several markets, Search Along the Route feature, Building footprint detection etc. These projects relied on various Machine Learning and Data Mining approaches to achieve their goals. In the upcoming years, the team will focus on creating the best map in the world by relying on open data sources.

Math Team

Math team in Belgrade is specialized in recognizing handwritten math using machine learning, algorithmically solving math equations, drawing and analyzing math functions, we well as creating compelling user scenarios that leverage these technologies: Math assistant in OneNote, Math quiz in Microsoft Forms.

Office Media Group (OMG) Team

Office Media Group (OMG) team has a mission to improve the media experience and include it in work life of every person. We are a consumer experience focused team, marrying easy to use and delightful UX with leading-edge technologies under the covers. We focus on delivering end-to-end experiences fueled by Machine Learning and Computer Vision.
