We are Azure Data, a Microsoft team that drives the future of data processing in the Microsoft Cloud. Our software development team, located in Belgrade, is building some of the most advanced and widely used data processing cloud services in the world. The services we build are based on groundbreaking technology and are global market leaders, with millions of active users. Azure SQL Managed Instance is our customer’s first choice service for migrating existing SQL Server instances from on-premise data centers to the cloud. Thousands of customers have easily migrated their apps to this service and got all the benefits of automated database management (patching, backups, high-availability, security). Azure Synapse Analytics is our flagship modern data warehousing service, used by everyone from individual developers to world’s largest enterprises. We’ve recently developed a new SQL serverless analytics engine which enables users to run SQL queries on top of raw data files in cloud storage, up to 100s of terabytes in scale. There are only a few similar solutions in the world, hence we’re very proud of this achievement.

We are looking for a program manager (technical product owner) who would closely work with our engineering team to define and build new customer experiences in Microsoft cloud services. As part of our product development cycle, we meet users, design new software features, develop and preview them with users iteratively and evangelize the new features to the world. The cycle is similar to those used by most Silicon Valley startups, additionally boosted with the advantages that Microsoft has, as a company with a global reach. Working within our team would enable you to create world-class software products out of world-class software technology, learn from us, and influence how we work with your unique perspectives and experience. Furthermore, this is an opportunity to collaborate with some of the top talent from across the globe, and partner with experts in various industry domains.

Responsibilities

  • Identifying user’s pain points that currently exist and creating vision and strategy on how to make our users more productive with the technology we develop.
  • Creating the functional design of a new software product, or new features in existing products. Aligning the functionality with complementary Microsoft products.
  • Tracking how users respond to new features and validate progress towards the set goals. Managing relationships with key users of our services.
  • Liaising between the development team and the rest of the world – the customers, the user experience designers, sales team, support team, etc.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in software industry, with experience in product management or a similar role.
  • Degree in computer science, electrical engineering, software engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong technical background and understanding of software engineering principles.
  • Effective communication (in English), including articulating complex issues and solutions.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel internationally (less than 10% of time), to conferences, customer visits, or the HQ in Redmond USA.
  • Experience with database technologies (SQL Server, Azure SQL, or competitor products) is a plus for this position.

Note: until the COVID-19 pandemic is in progress, there is no requirement for business travel, and also there is full flexibility to work from home if desired.
