Job description

We’re looking for a Linux Embedded Software Engineer that would contribute to a brand new home network security product called Avast Omni running on in-house designed hardware or compatible routers. You will help with designing firmware for cutting-edge network appliances for end users, porting the existing software to new platforms, collaborate with hardware manufacturers across the world to make sure our software runs correctly on their devices.   • Maintain packages for multiple systems and environment for other developers
  • Solve cross-compilation and compatibility troubles when supporting various platforms/devices on library/code and sometimes even kernel level
  • Contribute to overall system architecture (we run our own distribution based on Yocto, we port to OpenWRT based systems, Debian based systems)
  • Develop and maintain support tools in various scripting languages (BASH, Python, etc.)
  • Contribute to continuous integration, delivery and deployment pipeline
  • Submit patches needed to achieve cross-platform compatibility to various components (C, C++, Python)
  • Communicate with hardware vendors on technical integration topics
  • Create and maintain documentation (code, APIs, interaction, etc.)
  • Work with other team members (e.g. code review)
  • Work in a team of 3-5 engineers


  • Real experience with cross-compilation to multiple platforms
  • Experience with patching various code, modifying build systems of our components, and configuring applications such as Linux kernel, U-boot, and system
  • At least user level experience with Docker
  • Proficiency with Git
  • Ability to understand foreign code written in C/C++/Python
  • Experience with debugging own but also others’ code (debugging various applications and systems)
  • Good knowledge of Shell scripting + basic knowledge of another scripting language (Python preferred)
  • General Computer Science knowledge — algorithms & data structures, computer architecture, networks, etc.
  • Deeper understanding of Linux OS
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP protocols
  • Desire to learn new technologies and to solve various technical challenge
  • Ability to work in a very dynamic environment
  • Positive working attitude, teamwork spirit and communication skills
  • English written and spoken on C1+ level
  • Willingness to travel
